The keener eyed of you may have noticed the art has had a major overhaul since our last update and just to make sure we were not bored or taking it too easy we gave the mechanics a good shake up for good measure. (A more in depth mechanics post to come…)

Art wise the big decision to switch to this 2.5D hybrid system came due to my strengths in 2D and that workflow & the sheer amount of time the 3d pipeline takes. (At least for myself anyway.) This change enables me to pour far more character into the game (building from the character portraits and original concept art) and I am really excited about exploring the world of Everdawn and seeing how weird things can get without worrying about the technicalities of 3d. Tentacles all around!

At the moment we have just hit parity with the art content before the switch and we are just about ready to dive into new biomes, characters and more! Mechanics wise, the elephant in the room is the axing of the dice. I think we both fell into the trap of assuming as we had them from the beginning they had to stay, but with us taking a step back and asking big questions over the art workflow this also opened up to asking dice/ no dice.

We landed on no dice due to the additional layer of randomness it added to a run and how its novelty could quickly wear off if runs were repeatedly spoiled by a bad throw of the dice.

This also opens up the door for more time to develop in additional directions and we are excited to explore those more down the line. Anyway, that is all from me for now but I am sure Ben will have a more in depth breakdown about the new gods, feeding units to one another and more soon.
