You play the role of fictional Lovecraftian occultist and paranormal scholar Friedrich Wilhelm von Junzt, celebrated author of Unaussprechlichen Kulten, a volume exploring the blasphemous worship of ancient and alien eldritch beings. But through all your investigations and studies, your unwelcome scrutiny has not escaped the attention of certain dark forces; as Nietzsche said, “If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
Something oozing from the black heart of the abyss has followed you to the very door of your Düsseldorf study with an eye to curtailing your research into Things Man Was Not Meant To Know; safe for now in its reinforced arcane security, but not indefinitely, you must determine the nature of your pursuer and procure the necessary components to send it back to the Cyclopean ruins from whence it shambled.
