Command & Conquer в своё время был ориентиром для игр в жанре стратегий в реальном времени, предлагая легко доступный, но глубокий стратегический геймплей, который позволял проводить впечатляющие сражения в большом масштабе. Так как в 1998-м году Electronic Arts купили студию-разработчиков Command & Conquer Westwood Studios, а уже в 2003-м закрыли её, серия потеряла былую славу, но оригинальные игры (в частности, Red Alert) по-прежнему занимают место во всех сердцах фанатов RTS. OpenRA is an incredible fan made project that recreates C&C: Tiberian Dawn, C&C: Red Alert, and Dune 2000, and updates them for the modern era, with optimised Full Screen HD visuals, an improved UI, new units, unit veterancy, fog of war, proper online multiplayer support and full match replays.
Command&Conquer used to be the benchmark for Real Time Strategy games, offering up easily accessible, but deeply strategic gameplay that allowed for intense battles on a grand scale. Since EA took over the reigns, Command & Conquer has long since fallen from grace, but the original games (particularly Red Alert) still hold a place in every RTS fans heart. Unfortunately, with the passing years, even these classics have started to look a little dated – but fear not OpenRA adds a whole host of additions, tweaks and improvements that make C&C feel new again. C&C (Tiberian Dawn), C&C: Red Alert, and Dune 2000 are all available to play, offering up single player missions, skirmishes against bots and online multiplayer.
It’s clearly a work of passion, and the devs have been careful to only add features that improve the games, but don’t mess with the original classic gameplay. If you even have a passing interest in RTS games, you need OpenRA in your life – it takes the classic C&C gameplay we all know and love and updates it perfectly for the modern era – something EA has consistently failed to do for the past decade. The granddaddy of Real Time Strategy is back, and it really is better than ever!
